I struggled with eating disorders for almost 3 decades. My life was suffocating, and I was an emotion disaster. My health was crumbling, and I hated my job. I cycled through relationships. When life was unbearable, I gorged myself with food to stuff down my feelings.
One night after a binge, I knelt on the floor, hugged the toilet, and sobbed my heart out. I prayed for all this to end. I begged. I cried. I begged some more.
And then, God answered back. I felt a new energy for recovery.
The journey wasn’t easy. It was more tears and raw honesty. I realized I wasn’t looking for weight loss. I was looking for happiness. I wanted to be good enough. Since I couldn’t find happiness or my self-worth, I ate.
If I was going to recover, I had to believe I was good enough. I had to take control of my health and my emotions. I had to design my ideal life, create balance, and generate my own happiness.
I created meaningful relationships with people who loved me just as I was. I explored healthy foods and moved my body. I found ways to relieve stress and made time just for me. For once in my life, I was truly happy. I became the Master of My Life. Food no longer had control.
